Not the most expensive malt in our Luxury Collection, but this is a class act, and a benchmark malt for Longmorn, one of the very best distilleries in Speyside. Superb flavour concentration with the distillery's trademark grapefruit, boiled sweets and a hint of smoke. Bottled for the distillery's Centenary, this was presented to staff and dignitaries only.
Colour: gold. Nose: Christ, how expressive! Starts on litres and litres of grapefruit, then more grapefruit, then even more grapefruit and then various other ‘acidic’ tropical fruits starting with mangos, then passion fruits, tangerines and… grapefruits. All that is beautifully coated with some milk chocolate and many soft spices as well as something faintly metallic. Very, very vibrant Longmorn, loveable. Mouth: exceptional. So many fruits and so many resinous notes! Apricots, very ripe mangos, litchis, oranges, figs, liquorice, cough drops, eucalyptus sweets, lemon liqueur… Better stop here, the list would be too long (right, and boring). What’s also spectacular is the big body at just 43%, it’s almost thick. Finish: as long as a Berlusconi orgy. Just a little oak in the aftertaste, just a tiny-wee tad drying. Comments: state of the art uberfruity Longmorn. They knew how to celebrate their Century, didn’t they! SGP:741 - 93 points.
