A hand Selected Single Cask Release. From Refill Hogshead No. 1741; Filled on 20th October 1978.
Appearance
Rich Amber, Fine long beading.
Nose
Mellow; slow to develop yet evenly paced. Early notes of rich wine grow more creamy and fragrant. In time, fresher and sharper notes of tropical fruit emerge. Finally, autumnal and drying. Softer and sweeter with water, gingery and slightly peppery at first before vanilla fudge and nougat are matched by woody, floral notes of pine resin.
Body
Medium to rich.
Palate
With its pleasingly creamy texture, easy to enjoy: sweet and warming, growing aromatic with notes of crème brûlée. Some spice. Reduced, still smooth and sweet overall, but now more delicate; mouth drying, cooling and sweet.
Finish
Medium to long, pleasingly sour and chewy with lingering, warming spice. Later, a black tea bitterness with a trace of ginger. With water, almost bracing with a memory of sweet cereal and hints of orange oil.
